Havering Council has launched the Climate Change Community Champions programme following a successful National Lottery ‘Tackling the Planet’ funding grant.

The awarded grant is to support communities across the UK to take action on climate change.

The Council, working in partnership with Havering Volunteer Centre is inviting residents to register to become a Climate Change Champion and promote becoming greener in their homes and businesses.

The programme will include a series of informal and interactive climate change themed Green Cafés and workshops, each developed with our sector partners to provide access and a point of contact in the support of green initiatives.

The green cafés and workshops will be informative - a place to can learn how to recycle items, upcycle clothing, grow your own food, compost, greener travel and keeping Havering’s environment cleaner.

The small changes we make in our lives can support the borough and the planet.

Councillor Keith Darvill, Cabinet Member for Climate Agenda, Havering Council, said;

“The funding received from the National Lottery will be a boost to our climate activities in the borough through the development of the Climate Change Champions programme.

“You don’t need to be a climate change expert – we want to hear from individuals, groups, schools and local businesses who love talking to people and want to make a change, learn new skills and are happy to share experiences and skills to support others in becoming greener.

“I look forward to our Champions being a driving force as we engage on all things green with residents and businesses in the borough.”
