Join us in remembrance on Holocaust Memorial Day

Havering residents are invited to remember the millions of people killed in genocides across the world at a memorial service.

This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is 27 January 2023, and Havering’s annual commemorative service will take place on Sunday 22 January 2023 at 2pm in Coronation Gardens, Romford.

Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust under Nazi Persecution and other atrocities.

The Holocaust Memorial Day theme this year is ‘Ordinary People’ who were involved in all aspects of the Holocaust, Nazi persecution of other groups, and in the genocides that took place in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

The theme for 2023 asks us to reflect on the ordinary people who were perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers, witnesses – and of course victims.

Mayor of Havering, Councillor Trevor McKeever, said:

“This ceremony gives us the opportunity to reflect on those who lost their lives and those who survived, the terrible events of the Holocaust.

“This also includes Anti-Semitism and all other forms of racism, intolerance, bigotry and hatred, which we ignore at our peril.

"We all have a responsibility to end discrimination and work together for a safer, better, future for everyone.”
