Nominations for Havering Small Business Awards 2022/23 now open

Published: Thursday, 9 February 2023

Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural Havering Small Business Awards, nominations are now open for you to tell us who your favourite Havering small businesses are for 2022/23.

Small Business awards 2022/23 for Havering - words with a gold circle around it

Last year’s awards saw over 250 individual businesses nominated in the first round of the voting, with over 15,000 votes from members of the public for the category finalists in the second and final round.

Havering Small Business Awards is a community-led event giving residents the chance to show some love for the small and independent businesses across the borough that continue to serve their communities.

The awards, which are run by Havering Council, are split into 10 categories representing the wide range of small businesses in Havering.

These categories are:

  • Best Small or Independent Business
  • Best Beauty or Service Business
  • Best Take Away
  • Best Hospitality Business
  • Best Tradesperson
  • Best Customer Experience
  • Best Shopfront
  • Best Social Enterprise or CIC
  • Best Newcomer (less than a year old)
  • The Havering Small Business of the Year Award

The first nine categories are open to nominations from all residents, with the final award, the ‘Havering Small Business of the Year’ chosen from the winners of the other awards by a panel of Council officers and sponsors.

Nominations open at 9am on Monday 13 February and will close at 5pm on Monday 27 February 2023, giving Havering residents two weeks to shine a spotlight on their favourite businesses for each of the categories.

Nominations can be made through the Havering Council website and only take a couple of minutes, making it easy to name those businesses that go above and beyond.

The businesses that receive the most nominations for each category will then go through to the second and final round, where the public can vote for the winner in an online poll.

The winners will then be announced at a special evening reception in May.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“Our local businesses are part of the lifeblood of our communities and these awards helps to spotlight the great small businesses in our borough, as well as their hard work and achievements.

“The Awards are a timely reminder of how important it is to show our support for our businesses, shopping locally wherever possible”.

“These awards are community-led, so it’s now over to you, the people of Havering, to nominate the Havering small businesses you think deserve these awards.”

We would not be able to run these awards without the support of our sponsors - The Romford Business Improvement District (BID) are key sponsor for the awards, with Time 107.5 FM our media partner.
