Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council

“We are appalled and saddened by the recent spate of stabbing incidents in our borough and our sympathy and best wishes go to the family and friends of those injured and affected.

“We do not condone or tolerate knife crime and the fear and repercussions which comes from it.

"We are working alongside our local police colleagues to prevent and reduce this type of crime and to help bring perpetrators to justice.

“Despite financial challenges for the Council, we are committed to helping residents feel safe living, working and going to school and college in Havering.

"This remains one of our top priorities.

“This year we will invest £3.5m towards upgrading CCTV in the borough.

"We will also commit £290,000 for our Council-funded S92 police officers who are dedicated to tackling crime in our local neighbourhoods and town centres.

“They carry out a high number of stop and searches in Havering which specifically tackle this particular type of violence.

“We hope that this investment along with the important work we are doing with our local police force will reduce and prevent crime and help our residents to feel safer in their communities.”
