Havering on form for primary school places

Published: Tuesday, 18 April 2023

Thousands of local parents waited in anticipation yesterday (18 April 2023) for their child to be offered a place at an infant or primary school this September.

Nearly 89 percent of children in Havering were offered their first choice of primary school – just slightly (0.3 percent) above the London average, while more than 96 percent have been offered places at one of their top three preferred schools.

Across London the demand for primary school places has dropped, which may be attributed to various factors such as a decreasing birth rate, families moving due to changes in their circumstances and working patterns and families leaving London during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“Havering has once again performed superbly in allocating places to children starting school this September.

“With all our schools now rated “good” or better, pupils and parents will be pleased that their children will be receiving a top quality education.

“My thanks go out to the School Admissions Team and everyone who has worked so hard over the past few months to provide support to parents in achieving their preferred school.”
