Thousands of young people have been celebrating across Havering after receiving offers for their secondary school place.

On National Secondary Offer Day (1 March 2024) – 3,388 applications for pupils were received, over 50 more than last year, all of whom have been offered a school place.

More than 76 percent were offered their first choice of school (6th highest in all 32 London boroughs) and 95 percent were offered their top three choice of schools.

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“Once again Havering has delivered for our young people.

“We have an increasing child population which has led to an increased demand for school places.

“We can proudly say that we have some of the best schools in London which continues to be recognised by Ofsted in their ratings.

“With that in mind, I am pleased that most children making the move from primary to secondary schools will go to a school of their choice knowing that they will receive excellent teaching in equally outstanding environments.

“I would like to thank the school admissions team who have once again worked tirelessly for parents, carers and children in supporting this year’s applications, and to the school organisation team who have worked with schools to deliver an expansion programme which has added much needed school places.

“In my role as Cabinet Member, I have had the pleasure of visiting schools across the borough and have seen the tremendous work the educators and support staff are doing for our borough's children.”
