Havering Council has formally agreed to adopt five new green spaces previously identified at much-loved sites across the borough. They will remain undeveloped and protected for all future generations.

Cabinet announced the plans back in April 2023.

Following legal approval the green spaces at the following locations will now become formal Village Greens.

  • The land at Gooshays, Harold Hill.
  • Land at New Zealand Way, Rainham.
  • Land at Wennington Green, Wennington Village.
  • Land west of Taunton Road, Harold Hill.
  • Fleet Close Play Site, Upminster.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet member for Development and Regeneration, said:

"We promised in our manifesto that we would protect our most valuable green spaces by turning them into Village Greens and shield them from development.

“I’m very pleased to say that this is us delivering on that promise.

“The next steps will be to work closely with ward councillors and the local community to agree what each of the village green dedications will look like, and how the community might want to celebrate that.

"Look out for further announcements in due course.”
