Havering is flying the Armed Forces flag to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.
The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, raised the Armed Forces flag at a ceremony outside Havering Town Hall, Romford, on Monday 23 June 2025.
The annual celebration gives thanks to the dedication of our armed forces, who serve to keep us all safe.
The Armed Forces events are also an opportunity for everyone to show their support for the men and women of our forces past and present.
Havering will once again show appreciation this Armed Forces Day, Saturday 28 June 2025, with a parade starting at 10.30am on South Street's junction with Arcade Place, finishing at Havering Town Hall, Romford.
Among those marching will be currently serving troops, veterans and cadets, and Service families.
This year’s Armed Forces Day Parade is supported by Elm Site Services.
On Saturday, the Council in conjunction with NHS North East London ICB will be signing the Armed Forces Covenant as part of this year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations in recognition to all those who serve or have served as well as their families.
The Armed Forces Covenant promises that no member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage at work or in the community as a result of their service, and in some circumstances special consideration is appropriate for those who have given the most, such as the injured or bereaved.
The signing will take place outside the Town Hall at approximately 11.15am.
Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, said:
“It is an honour to raise the Armed Forces flag today in dedication of His Majesty’s Armed Forces as it serves as a reminder of the continued contribution of our troops.
“From those currently serving, to veterans, cadets and service families, the sacrifice, hard work and courage our armed forces show in risking their lives to keep us safe should never be forgotten.
“Havering’s appreciation for the Armed Forces remains as strong as ever, and flying this flag marks our support to all servicemen and servicewomen across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
Michael Steel, Director, Elm Site Services, said:
“Elm Site Services are proud to support Havering’s Armed Forces Day Parade.
“We consistently back meaningful initiatives and events for the Armed Forces community, to honour and give back to those who have served us all so selflessly.
“We look forward to taking part in a wonderful event this Saturday and showing our appreciation to the Armed Forces.”
