Mayor hosts reception for schools
Mayor congratulates schools on their Ofsted reports

Twenty-two Havering schools have been commended by the Mayor for their successful Ofsted reports.

The schools – a mixture of primary, secondary and special schools - were invited to meet the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, at a special reception this week.

Thanking the teachers, the Mayor said:

“It’s a hard task trying to manage all the regulations and red tape that you have and all the hurdles and hoops you have to jump through, but somehow you have managed to achieve amazing results.

“You are influencing and educating young people and getting them very excited about their future, so I really do take my hat off to each and every one of you for achieving such wonderful results.”

She presented them with a certificate and medal to mark their achievements.

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added:

“Some amazing work is being carried out in our schools and it’s important that the staff are honoured for their hard work and innovation.

"We want to say a huge thank you for the difference they are making in the lives of children in Havering.”

The Ofsted inspections were carried out in the schools over the past year.

They usually last up to two days and involve inspectors carrying out a thorough assessment of the school’s overall performance.

The inspections look at areas such as the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

A number of schools received “Good” or “Outstanding” ratings, before the system was replaced in favour of a more detailed explanation of inspectors’ findings on key aspects of each school.

Schools inspected after September 2024 were not given a single headline grade.

From this autumn, schools will be given report cards which will provide parents with a complete picture of how schools are performing.

Councillor Ospreay also invited each school to bring their pupils to the Town Hall in Romford to enjoy the unique experience of visiting the Council and its chamber.
