Armed Forces Day

Hundreds of residents turned out for Havering’s Armed Forces Day celebrations (28 June) to show their appreciation to currently serving troops, veterans and cadets, and Service families.

The Mayor of Havering, Cllr Sue Ospreay, was joined by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Colonel Jane Davis OBE QVRM TD DL, and the Leader of Havering Council, Cllr Ray Morgon for the annual Armed Forces Day parade, which was supported by Elm Site Services.

Following the parade, The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, shared a speech that gave thanks to the dedication of our armed forces.

As part of this year’s Armed Forces Day event, the Council in conjunction with NHS North East London ICB, also signed the Armed Forces Covenant in recognition to all those who serve, have served as well as their families.

Havering’s Armed Forces Covenant was signed by The Mayor of Havering, Cllr Sue Ospreay, Dr N.S Kullar and Major Evanson-Goddard on behalf of Havering Council, NHS North East London ICB and the Ministry of Defence respectively.

The Armed Forces Covenant promises that no member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage at work or in the community as a result of their service, and in some circumstances special consideration is appropriate for those who have given the most, such as the injured or bereaved.

Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, said:

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for everyone to show their support for the men and women of our forces past and present.

“From those currently serving, to veterans, cadets and service families, the sacrifice, hard work and courage our armed forces show in risking their lives to keep us safe should never be forgotten.

“The armed forces rightly hold a special place in our hearts and Havering’s appreciation remains as strong as ever, as we continue to show our appreciation to all servicemen and servicewomen across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
