The Bridge Close development project is set to be reviewed by the Council’s Strategic Planning Committee at next week’s meeting (Thursday 28 July 2025).
This follows the submission of an addendum to the original planning application from November 2023, addressing the feedback from the initial consultation.
The updated scheme includes up to 1,070 new homes, a primary school, flexible health space, and a new pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting Bridge Close to the town centre.
Additionally, the project will feature community and business spaces, the naturalisation of the River Rom, and new green spaces and play areas for the local community.
The project team has incorporated feedback from local residents and statutory consultees, ensuring the development meets community needs.
Key updates to the scheme include enhanced fire safety measures, reflecting the most recent changes in legislation, maximised family homes with 35 percent designated as affordable housing, improved entrance areas, increased flood risk resilience, and provisions for solar panels and cycle storage.
These changes respond to comments from the Local Planning Authority, the Greater London Authority and Transport for London.
Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:
“We are committed to creating a scheme that reflects the input and aspirations of our community. This addendum demonstrates our dedication to transparency and engagement throughout this process.”
