Emergency Services Day 2025

Havering Council has marked Emergency Services Day by raising the official ‘999’ flag at Havering Town Hall, Romford.

The flag raising ceremony, on Tuesday 9 September 2025, saw Mayor of Havering, Cllr Sue Ospreay pay tribute to those who work and volunteer across the NHS and emergency services across the UK.

Emergency Services Day celebrates all the great work the emergency services do, recognises the importance of everyone learning basic lifesaving skills, and asks that we show respect to our emergency services by only relying on their help when it is appropriate to do so.

A two-minute silence was observed to remember the emergency service workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Guests included Council staff and serving personnel of the Metropolitan Police who joined borough representatives alongside the Mayor of Havering.

Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, said:

“Emergency Services Day gives us the chance to show our support for the selfless men and women who protect us, serve our country and keep us safe every day.

“They are an example to us all, and I would like to thank them for their continued hard work in serving our borough.”
