Havering Council is encouraging residents to Keep It Local and buy from their high streets when grabbing gifts this Christmas.

With the festivities just around the corner, residents of Havering will be out to secure the perfect games, clothes, treats and jewellery for their loved ones.

But remember, you don’t have to visit shopping centres outside the borough or the internet to grab a bargain, Havering has it all on your doorstep.

To prove it, the Council challenged Councillors Ray Morgon and Graham Williamson to head out to Havering’s town centres and pick up the quintessential 12 Gifts for Christmas.

In a video released by Havering Council, the Councillors hit the high streets to check off their gift list, which included toys, decorations, and trinkets for those special people in their lives.

As part of the day out, they also visited Santa Claus in his grotto and took a ride in Santa’s magical elevator.

The full video is available on the Council’s YouTube channel.

Cllr Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

"Christmas is such a special time of year for so many people.

"Not only is it a time to celebrate with those you love, but it’s a great chance to reflect on the brilliant and vibrant communities we have in the borough.

"Local, independent, often family-run businesses are a vital part of those communities, and it’s the perfect time to show them how much we all appreciate what they offer.

"From local butchers and bakers to independent retailers and department stores, Havering’s high streets need us now more than ever.

"This Christmas, ditch online shopping and the shopping centres outside the borough and help us celebrate our town centres and Havering businesses by buying your gifts and supplies locally, and grab a bargain while you’re at it."
