Jordanas Viliusis

A Havering resident is paving the way for a promising career in architecture, thanks to a unique scholarship opportunity made possible through the 12 Estates joint venture partnership.

Jordanas Viliusis, the first in his family to attend university, is now entering his second year studying architecture at the University of Greenwich.

His journey was made possible by the Collado Collins Architecture Bursary, which supports aspiring architects from diverse backgrounds.

Reflecting on his first year, Jordanas said:

“It’s been great.

“The architecture community has made the experience very positive and enjoyable.

"The university has recently built a new design building, which has everything I need to become an architect.”

The bursary has not only eased the financial pressure of university life but also provided Jordanas with a clear pathway into the industry.

He is now preparing for a placement with Collado Collins, where he will gain hands-on experience and training in industry-standard software.

Jordanas has closely followed the regeneration work taking place across Havering through the Council’s joint venture with Wates Residential.

He’s particularly inspired by the potential of these developments to create vibrant public spaces and improve the local environment.

“Architecture isn't just about liking buildings and drawing,” he said.

“It is a process for life which builds and maintains the economy, provides jobs, services, education, and lifestyles for everyone.”

Looking ahead, Jordanas plans to pursue a master’s degree and qualify as an architect, with the goal of contributing meaningfully to the built environment in Havering and beyond.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“Supporting young people like Jordanas through initiatives like this bursary is part of our commitment to creating opportunities and a lasting legacy for Havering residents.

“The Collado Collins Architecture Bursary, secured through our joint venture partnership with Wates Residential, is another example of the wider commitment we have to invest in local talent and create opportunities for residents to thrive and help shape the borough’s future.”
