Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“This should be a time of celebration and good will for all of our communities, but it has become a time of distress for our Jewish community.
“My thoughts go out to all those who are suffering following the attack at Bondi Beach. I am shocked and saddened that something like this has happened.
“We should not live in a world where such evil attacks take place.
"Hanukkah celebrations must go on, including in Havering, and I know the police will increase their presence to ensure that this can happen.
“We will continue to work with them and all of our faith leaders to make sure we support our Jewish community, and we remain a calm, cohesive and welcoming borough.”
