Havering Council’s Cabinet last night formally approved the dedication of four additional Village Greens, strengthening long-term protections for much loved community spaces across the borough.

It brings the total number of village greens dedicated since 2024 to fourteen.

The four new dedications form the next phase of the Council’s programme to secure lasting protections for green and open spaces valued by local residents:

  • Elliot Playing Fields, Hubbards Chase, Hornchurch, to be dedicated on Saturday 14 March, 11am
  • Queen’s Theatre Green, Billet Lane, Hornchurch, to be dedicated on Saturday 21 March, 11am
  • Cherry Tree Lane Green, Cherry Tree Lane, Rainham, to be dedicated on Sunday 22 March, 11am
  • The Havering Well Garden, Roneo Corner, Romford, to be dedicated on Sunday 22 March, 3pm

The decision means that each of the identified sites will receive official Village Green status, ensuring they are safeguarded from development and preserved for recreation, nature, and community use for generations to come.

The dedication process also reinforces the Council’s commitment to protecting green spaces as part of its wider environmental and wellbeing priorities.

Cllr Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“Our green spaces are at the heart of our communities, offering places to meet, play, relax and connect with nature.

“By dedicating four more Village Greens to join the ten we have already celebrated, we are ensuring that these areas will be protected forever, for Havering residents and visitors now and in the future.

“This is a significant investment in our borough’s wellbeing and environment, and I’m proud that Cabinet has taken this step to safeguard the spaces people cherish most.”
