Queen’s Theatre Green receives official village green status

Havering Council has formally dedicated the green space outside the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, as an official village green, following a community celebration on 21 March 2026.

The new status provides long term protection for this well‑used green, ensuring it remains a welcoming place for residents, families and theatre goers to meet, relax and enjoy a vibrant community space at the heart of Hornchurch.

The event was attended by Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, along with Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, Councillor Graham Williamson, and St Andrews Ward Councillors Bryan Vincent and Paul Middleton.

Widely loved as an open, accessible area that complements the borough’s cultural landmark, the green plays an important role in supporting wellbeing and providing a natural breather within the town centre.

Its designation reflects the strong local appreciation for the space and the ongoing efforts made by volunteers and partners who help maintain it.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“These dedications represent our manifesto commitment to protecting the green spaces that mean so much to our residents.

“I want to thank everyone who joined us to celebrate the dedication, the first of three this weekend!”

The dedication of Queen’s Theatre Green forms part of Havering Council’s wider programme of enhancements to green spaces across the borough, reinforcing the pledge to support community wellbeing and protect the natural environment.
