Cherry Tree Lane green space receives official village green status

We have formally dedicated the green space at Cherry Tree Lane, Rainham, as an official village green, following the second of three community celebrations over the weekend of 21 March 2026.

The dedication secures long‑term protection for this important local green corridor, which offers residents a place to walk, relax and enjoy nature within easy reach of their homes.

The site is widely valued for its role as a peaceful, accessible route for the community and an important stretch of local biodiversity.

Residents, community organisations, the Leader of the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon, joined South Hornchurch Ward Councillors Graham Williamson and Natasha Summers to commemorate the new designation and recognise the contribution of local volunteers who help care for the area.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet member for Development and Regeneration and South Hornchurch Ward Councillor, said:

“These dedications represent our manifesto commitment to protecting the green spaces that mean so much to our residents.

“By securing village green status for these sites, we are ensuring they can be enjoyed now and for generations to come.

“I want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate over the weekend, and the community groups, volunteers and Council partners who continue to play such an important role in caring for these vital spaces.”

The dedication of Cherry Tree Lane is part of Havering Council’s broader programme of enhancements to green spaces across the borough, reinforcing its pledge to support community wellbeing and protect the natural environment.
