The Havering Well Garden officially dedicated as fourteenth village green

On 21 March 2026 Havering Council has officially completed the dedication of The Havering Well Garden in Romford as a village green.

The event, attended by residents, The Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Lead for Development and Regeneration, Hylands and Harrow Lodge ward Councillor Christine Smith, and community groups, celebrated the garden’s new protected status.

The Havering Well Garden has been rejuvenated in recent years through resident involvement and volunteer support, making it a vibrant and welcoming community space.

The dedication ensures the garden will continue to be safeguarded for public enjoyment, community activities and local wellbeing.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“These village green dedications represent our manifesto commitment to protecting the green spaces that mean so much to our residents.

“By securing village green status for The Havering Well Garden, it brings the total number of much loved green spaces now protected as village green to fourteen since 2024.

“We are ensuring they can be enjoyed now and for generations to come.

“I want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate over the weekend, and the community groups and volunteers who continue to play such an important role in caring for these vital spaces.”

With this final dedication for March 2026, Havering Council completes its latest phase of work to preserve, enhance and safeguard green spaces borough‑wide, strengthening its commitment to community wellbeing and environmental stewardship.
