A significant new programme of electrical repair and maintenance works has begun across Havering’s housing stock, as AJS starts mobilisation of a long term contract with Havering Council.
The £5 million‑per‑year contract will run for an initial 9 years and 5 months, with the option to extend for a further 5 years.
It builds on an already successful partnership between the Council and AJS, which has delivered electrical services for local residents for more than nine years.
Under the new contract, AJS will continue to provide communal and domestic electrical testing across the borough.
The programme also expands to include installation of Solar PV panels, EV charging points, to support safer and more secure homes.
Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Member for Housing Property, said:
“I’m pleased to see this new contract with AJS underway, strengthening the long‑standing partnership between Havering Council and AJS.
“Ensuring the safety, reliability and efficiency of electrical services across our housing stock is vital, and this programme will help us continue to protect residents’ homes while supporting improvements across a wide range of properties.
“We look forward to seeing the benefits delivered for our communities over the coming years.”
The works will take place across a range of housing types, including hostels, high‑ and low‑rise developments, sheltered housing, assisted living schemes, and general needs properties.
As part of the contract, AJS will also be contributing to Havering’s social value commitments, creating added benefits for residents and the wider community.
