More than 90 percent of children attending school in Havering for the first time this September have been offered their first preference of primary school.

While nearly 98 percent of children received one of their top three preferences on Primary School Offer Day (16 April 2026).

The number of first choice places offered has improved slightly from last year when 89.1 percent received their first-choice preference.

Havering Council’s Schools Admissions Team successfully processed 3,121 applications, a slight decrease when compared to the 3,212 last year.

Of the cohort starting in September, 132 Havering children were offered an out-of-borough infant or primary school, with 118 of these offers being their first preference.

Tara Geere, Director of Starting Well, said:

“Primary School Offer Day is both an exciting and anxious day for many parents and families so we are pleased that we have improved our performance.

"With more than 90 percent of children being offered their first choice of school, our admissions team has done an exceptional job to support children and families.

“We wish these children and families all the best as they officially start their education journey and have the assurance that they have access to some of the best schools and facilities in London.

“I want to acknowledge the dedication of the schools admissions team and thank them for efficiently handling the many applications and queries and for getting the applications sorted on time.”
