Pupils across Havering have been celebrating their A-level results day today (Thursday, 13 August 2026).
More than 1,000 young people took their A-level, BTEC and T (technical) Level exams in Havering this summer and today they found out the results of years of study.
At Harris Academy Rainham, students began arriving early.
More than 140 pupils there sat their exams in A-levels and vocational studies and their efforts were commended by Principal Mr Gareth Stananought.
He said: “Congratulations to the whole of our class of 2026, now deservedly celebrating places at some of the country’s top universities with a quarter of entries receiving A or A*.
“They have worked hard and earned their success, and I wish each and every student all the very best for their future education and careers.”
Among the outstanding students were Emmanuella, with A*, A, A in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and a place at UCL for Medicine. She is the first in her family to go to university.
Along with friend Sophie, who achieved A in Maths and Bs in Chemistry and Biology, both were inspired to join the sixth form from another borough after a former teacher from their last school invited them to an open day.
Teo gained A* and two As in Religious Studies, Maths and Economics respectively and plans to attend Durham University.
He said the academy was just a minute away from his home which meant that he could have access to top class education.
Alternatively, he would have had to travel out of the borough to study the subjects he was interested in.
While Kristian, said he was pleased to have achieved A* and two As in Economics, Maths and History and has a place at UCL to study Economics, Politics and History.
Headboy Elis is heading to Warwick University to study for a Master’s in neuroscience after achieving A* in Maths and Chemistry and As Biology and Further Maths.
He said he was familiar with the Sixth Form before starting and knew his education would be in good hands.
Councillor Kevin Gill, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People visited the school to meet pupils, to find out how they got on and their plans for the future.
He said: “It was a real pleasure meeting so many talented, hardworking and ambitious pupils.
"I was inspired by their achievements and also their prospects for their future.
"The school has created an environment where pupils are enthusiastic and thriving on their learning. Congratulations to everyone – both pupils and staff – and I wish them continued success for the future.”
