Chafford Sports Complex Consultation

Published: Tuesday, 16 October 2018

Havering Council is reviewing the future of Chafford Sports Complex in Rainham. The Council is launching an eight-week consultation from today 16 October until 10 December.

The Chafford Sports Complex, is owned by the Harris Academy Rainham, but run by the Council’s Leisure contractor SLM Ltd (Everyone Active).

Council funding for this site is due to stop in December 2018, and there is no funding for the Complex in the Council’s base budget.

The review will consider a number of factors regarding the Complex and options for its future.

The consultation is one part of a wider review to help deliver savings as a result of decreasing government funding which has left a £37 million budget gap.

Councillor Viddy Persaud, Cabinet Member for Culture, said:

“This consultation will tell us how residents are making use of Chafford and help us to understand the viable leisure options available for people in the south of the borough.

“This Council is committed to delivering quality leisure facilities which serve the whole borough, with significant investment in the recently opened Sapphire Ice and Leisure in Romford and the renovation of Hornchurch Sports Centre and Central Park Leisure Centre.

“In addition, we’re also lobbying for more new leisure facilities to be built as part of the regeneration planned for the Rainham area.”

Residents can give their views online and there will also be printed surveys available at Chafford Sports Complex Rainham, Havering Town Hall, Main Road, Romford, Rainham Library and the Harris Academy, Rainham.
