Havering acknowledges International Day of the Disabled Person

Havering will be working to remove the barriers faced by people with disabilities as it marks International Day of the Disabled Person on Monday 3 December.

Tickets for the event are available for the one-day event at Romford’s Salvation Army, which will see a range of national and community organisations coming together to help identify and remove the various barriers experienced by local disabled people.

Councillor Jason Frost, Cabinet Member for Health, said:
“Events like this are crucial to putting faces and voices to the experiences of disabled people in Havering. It will provide an opportunity for disabled people to come together and to be an integral part of planning for future services for the borough.”

Guest speakers on the day include senior members of Havering Council, Havering Association of Disabled People, Havering MIND, Transport for London, AccessAble, Met Police, and London Fire Brigade. There will also be breakout sessions to specifically discuss barriers experienced by people with physical disability, mental health, sensory impairments, and autism. The event organisers also want to hear from carers.

The event is free, but booking is essential.
