New Mayor for Havering appointed

Mayor of Havering for 2019/20 is appointed.

Havering has a new Mayor following the Annual Council meeting on Wednesday 15 May.

Councillor Michael Deon Burton, who represents South Hornchurch, was elected to be Mayor of Havering for 2019/20. He was first elected to Havering Council in 2008.

Councillor Michael Deon Burton, said: 

"It is an absolute privilege to have been elected as Mayor of Havering. During my year as Deputy Mayor I have discovered a lot about Havering, and I look forward to meeting more wonderful people and organisations whilst I'm in office."

The Mayor's chosen charities to support will be announced in due course.

Outgoing Mayor, Councillor Dilip Patel, said: "In my time as Mayor I have met such incredible people from all around Havering. Their overwhelming generosity, pride and kind-heartedness has made me feel honoured to have served as the Mayor of Havering."

Cllr Patel's Mayoral Charity Appeal raised over £80,000 for local charities Havering Mind, Lennox Children's Cancer Fund and the Rainbow Trust, with £9,000 of that coming from winning 2nd place at this year's New Year's Day Parade.

Councillor John Mylod has been named as Deputy Mayor.
