Enter a magic winter forest and find yourself immersed in a short story inspired by the world of CS Lewis this December, as Narnia* comes to Romford Market.

The Narnia Experience comes to Romford Market this December.

The free experience has been commissioned by Havering Council and hosted by Artless, a Havering-based theatre company and Christian charity with a mission to inspire children and young people through performance and creativity.

Romford Market will be open every day from Friday 13 December to Tuesday 24 December.

The historic market will be extending its hours in the run-up to Christmas to make it easier to pick up Christmas decorations, gift bargains and everyday essentials including fruit, veg, fish and meat.

A free wrapping station will be available just outside Debenhams from 20 December to 24 December. Buy anything in the market and get it wrapped it for free.

Santa will also have his own post box in the middle of the Market from the 13 – 18 December. Children posting a letter to Father Christmas will receive a personalised reply.

To add to the seasonal festive spirit, the Market will have stalls selling mince pies and mulled wine, toys, children’s clothes, gifts for all ages, up to the minute fashion for Christmas parties, Christmas trees and a variety of decorations, as well as smaller gifts for under the tree.

There will also be entertainment in the Market Place from Saturday 14 December until Christmas Eve. This will include a free mini funfair with a Ferris wheel, and kids rides including fun castle, teacups, chair o’plane, train ride and crazy car ride.

Santa’s reindeer will also be paying a visit to Romford Market on the 21 December between 11am and 3pm, giving young ones the chance to meet live reindeer.

In addition, special events will be held on Saturday 14 December and 21 December.

On both days, a mini Christmas concert will be held on a stage hosted by Time 107.5FM, providing festive family-friendly musical and dance performances.

Christmas in Romford Market events will be open from 11am to 4pm each day from 14 December – 24 December. It closes at 3pm on Christmas Eve.

Councillor Michael Deon Burton, Mayor of Havering, said:

"The Market Place has long been the heart and soul of Romford town centre and is a proud part of Havering’s heritage.

"I hope that with these extended trading hours and lots of free entertainment everyone comes along to show their support for our Market and really get into the spirit.

“From festive music to the magical experience of Narnia, Romford Market has it all this Christmas, and I encourage everybody to come along and celebrate this wonderful time of year.”
