Havering Council will celebrate St George’s Day this week by hosting an online quiz to raise money for Havering Heroes, alongside other fun virtual events.

The St George’s Day Virtual Quiz, hosted by Mark Dover from Time 107.5FM, will help raise money for the Havering Heroes fund, which will support local voluntary groups and organisations through the coronavirus crisis.

Taking place on the Council’s Facebook page this Thursday 23 April at 7pm, the quiz will consist of five rounds, putting people’s general knowledge to the test.

Other virtual events taking place on the Council’s Facebook page include Rainham-based Lightnin Drama Group performing The Tale of St George and the Dragon by way of song and narration, along with a tutorial from community chef, Mark Borrell, who will be showing viewers how to bake bread.

Arts and crafts fans will be able to join Poppy, an arts and crafts tutor, as she demonstrates how to make your own dragon puppet and paper theatre for your own performances.

Face painting guru Claire will also be bringing St George’s Day fun into people’s homes with a step-by-step guide on how to paint a dragon on your face.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:

"In true Havering fashion, the borough will be celebrating St George’s Day this week despite the challenges that coronavirus presents.

"But this year isn’t just about celebrating the historic day; it is also a chance for us to help out those groups and organisations working tirelessly to help our most vulnerable residents through this crisis.

“I encourage everyone to pledge however much they can, join in on the quiz, and enjoy the wonderful events we have on offer throughout the day.”
