Havering Council has announced that the cemeteries at Romford, Hornchurch, Rainham and Upminster are now re-opened as part of new government guidance

However, the grounds to South Essex Crematorium will remain closed in accordance with Coronavirus Act Legislation until further notice.

The four cemeteries will open from 9am-7pm -  the usual opening hours at this time of year.

Social distancing guidelines around Covid-19 will remain in place on all sites and residents are reminded to follow these rules when visiting the cemeteries.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said: “These new guidelines allow residents to visit the resting places of loved ones in our cemeteries which we know is important to them.

“We hope that this brings them comfort especially during these tough times. But we do remind everyone to please observe the social distancing rules when visiting the cemeteries, as we still need to  help each other including our cemetery staff, keep safe.”
