Opening date revealed for new leisure centre in Hornchurch

Published: Tuesday, 15 December 2020

Havering Council and Everyone Active are pleased to announce the new Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre will welcome visitors with an ‘open week’ from Sunday 3 January 2021.

This will give visitors a chance to get a ‘first look’ at the new multi-million sports centre and have the opportunity to try the new facilities and a variety of activities for free.

All activities will be socially distanced and in line with the new safety measures and any Covid 19 restrictions at the time.

Those who wish to attend the open week will need to register their slot online in advance.

Residents will be able to enjoy a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, a 20m wide learning and diving pool with movable floor to change the depth.

There will also be a 100-station health and fitness suite, sports hall, three exercise studios, including a dedicated FORTIS studio and group cycling studio.

Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre is part of a huge investment in leisure and sports facilities across the borough by the Council, which includes Sapphire Ice and Leisure in Romford.

There are plans for another new centre in the south of the borough.

The new centre will be replacing Hornchurch Sports Centre, where the current swimming pool there will close for the final time on Christmas Eve (24 December 2020).

Residents and visitors can still use the gym facilities there until the new centre is open.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“After what has been a terrible year for our leisure centres, it is wonderful news that the long-awaited Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre will soon be opening its doors.

“Our leisure centres are very popular with the local community.

"This new addition really demonstrates our commitment to providing everything residents need to live happy, healthy lives.”

Tom Fletcher, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said:

“The brand new Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre will be a welcome addition to the town.

"The local community will benefit greatly from all the fantastic facilities we have to offer.

“Leisure centres in Havering are pivotal in providing a wide range of facilities to the community.

"We're passionate about helping more people to improve their health and wellbeing by getting active.

"We hope to see many new and returning members visit us on our official open week.”

Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre will offer a diverse mix of facilities, including:

  • an eight-lane main pool
  • a 20m wide learner and diving pool with an adjustable floor, meaning it can be used safely by different age groups for different purposes.
  • a large 100-station fitness suite with its own dedicated changing area and locker facilities
  • a dedicated group cycling studio, including hi-tech virtual classes where resistance programmes match the contours of the terrain on the screen
  • two multi-use exercise studios
  • a dedicated FORTIS studio
  • a six-court sports hall

To celebrate the opening, Everyone Active is offering those who sign up before 3 January, 25 percent off their monthly membership for 12 months, saving them £120 for the year.
