Ardleigh Green CCTV cameras extended for six months
New temporary CCTV cameras have been installed in Ardleigh Green following a trial to combat anti-social behaviour in the area.
Havering Council set up a CCTV tower at the junction of Ardleigh Green Road and Squirrels Heath Lane in early December, in response to concerns from residents and businesses.
The installation of the cameras was one of a number of actions taken by the Council.
Other actions included Council enforcement officers and Covid marshals patrolling the area and working closely with the college, police and neighbourhood watch co-ordinators.
The college and Safer Schools police officers spoke directly to the young people involved, who were encouraged to stay on campus at lunchtime.
The college also worked closely with Transport for London, who increased the number of buses in the area, so students could leave the area at the end of the day.
The CCTV Tower which has been in place is being removed today (7 April 2021) and more traditional cameras have already been installed. A review will then be carried out to decide whether the cameras are still needed.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“I’m pleased that the measures we introduced seem to have been successful in reducing anti-social behaviour in the area.
“However, we’re continuing to work closely with the police and college to ensure that residents and students remain safe. The new cameras will be reviewed after six months to see if they are needed for longer.
“In the meantime, we’d encourage residents and businesses to report any incidents that occur so that action can be taken quickly.”
