Romford Market fully reopens

The historic market has been open to essential retail and food stalls only since the current wave of national Covid 19 restrictions began. 

Ordinarily, the market attracts thousands of shoppers each year, and with all non-essential retail businesses reopening their doors this week, the market place is expected to be busy. 

The Council has been working with traders to ensure social distancing measures are in place ahead of the reopening, to make sure shoppers can stay safe and still enjoy everything the market has to offer.

People are reminded to keep a 2-metere social distance, and exercise patience and courtesy to fellow shoppers and traders, especially at busy times. 

The Council is urging anyone visiting the market, or working on stalls or surrounding shops, to get your regular rapid Covid 19 test at the nearby testing site, located at 40 High Street, Romford.

Results are given within 30 minutes, and regular testing will help stop the spread of Covid 19, as one in three people with the virus show now symptoms. 

To help local businesses and shoppers, Havering Council recently announced the all Council-owned car parks would offer free parking for the next four weeks.

“Romford sits at the heart of our borough, and the Market is a special place for our residents.

"I encourage everyone to shop locally, but also please remember to stay vigilant and help keep each other safe from coronavirus.”
