Joint statement from Havering Police chief and Council Leader

Acting BCU Commander, Mark Long said:

“My thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man who has been killed in this incident and I would like to offer my thanks to the members of the public who came to his aid.

"I understand the concerns around safety that will arise from this and we have increased patrols in the area from our local policing teams. Community safety remains a high priority and I urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to my officers when you see them or contact us directly.

"A number of arrests have been made in relation to the incident and Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate and enquiries remain ongoing.

"Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote reference CAD6572/7May.

"Alternatively, to remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, added:

“I am shocked and saddened at the death of a 16-year-old boy in our community. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“We are working closely together with police to keep people safe, and our Havering Joint Task Force team are actively involved in the investigation.

“I urge anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to please get in touch with the police.

“Residents will understandably be concerned following this tragic incident but please rest assured that the Council continues to work with the police to keep Havering one of the safest boroughs in London.”
