Pick up for the Great British Spring Clean

Published: Wednesday, 26 May 2021

Havering Council is once again supporting this year’s Great British Spring Clean, by encouraging residents to grab a litter picker and help clean up their communities.

Residents can borrow up to six litter pickers, gloves and waste bags from the Council.

To book, they can email environmental.maintenance@havering.gov.uk

Once confirmed, residents can collect the pickers from the Harrow Lodge Depot, Hornchurch Rd, RM11 1JU, between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday.

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual campaign run by the environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.

This year, it runs from Friday 28 May to Sunday 13 June 2021.

It brings together community organisations up and down the country.

The campaign will see people take part in projects clearing up litter, tidying up and improving the look of their local areas and communities where they live.

Councillor Osman Dervish, Havering's Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“We want to work together with residents to keep the borough clean and tidy

"So everyone can be proud of living, working and going to school in Havering.

“As the roadmap out of lockdown continues,

"Being out in the fresh air is key to our recovery from Covid 19 and this campaign is great for residents to take part in safely.

“We are regularly taking action against fly-tipping, dog fouling and littering.

"However, we need the help of our residents too.

“We encourage them to continue to report issues to us.

"Also, to think twice about what they are doing before they drop that crisp packet or cigarette butt on the ground.

"Encourage  others to put their litter in a bin.

“We look forward to seeing many of you joining us in picking up for the Great British Spring Clean over the next fortnight.”
