Your say on Havering’s polling districts
Havering Council has launched a consultation to review the borough’s electoral polling areas and the location of polling stations.
It follows the Electoral Review of Havering's wards which has now been completed by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England.
There will be an increase of wards from 18 to 20, which results in changes to the current ward boundaries and the polling districts within them.
As a result, Havering Council has to conduct a review of polling districts and the location of polling places and stations for use at both national and local elections in order to mirror the changes to the ward boundaries.
The outcome of that review will be reported to the Council to enable the Electoral Registration Officer to make any changes necessary to the register of electors when it is next revised on 1 December.
Andrew Blake-Herbert, Chief Executive of Havering Council, said:
“Now that the ward boundaries have been drawn up by the independent Boundary Commission, Havering Council must review the borough’s polling districts within the new wards map.
“As part of this, we’re calling on residents to have their say on our proposed changes to polling districts, which will determine the location of polling stations for both local and general elections in the future.
“Local political parties, MPs and Councillors are being consulted and we also want to invite residents to share their views before any changes are made.”
Residents can now comment on the existing and proposed arrangements.
Any comments should include, where appropriate, alternative venue suggestions that may be used as polling stations. Residents should submit any comments by 13 August 2021.
Details of any representations received will be made available for inspection and will be published at the conclusion of the review.
