Havering’s second community hub opens in Rainham

Designed and developed with local residents and partners, and tailored to meet local needs, the Rainham hub is based in two ‘pop-up’ locations; Rainham Library and the Mardyke Community Centre.

Offering a similar range of support and advice as the first hub in Harold Hill, the Rainham Pop-up Community Hub will help residents access local services to improve well-being and help communities recover after the pandemic.

Support will be tailored to housing, money, well-being and community safety on Wednesdays between 10am and 12.30pm at Rainham Library. On Fridays between 10am and 12.30pm, residents can get advice on employment and money at the Mardyke Community Centre.

Havering Council has teamed up with Age UK, Peabody, Havering Mind, Safer Neighbourhoods, Citizens Advice Havering, CAP, Havering Association for People with Disabilities, Forward Trust, Maximus and Clarion Futures, as well as other organisations to deliver a wide range of services and provide support to anyone that needs it.

On Fridays, the hub will be joined by local employers such as Wanis Foods who are opening a new site in Ferry Lane, and want to recruit local people into jobs such as Facilities and Maintenance, and Truck Operator roles. 

Councillor Viddy Persaud, Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Safety, said:

“We have seen from the instant popularity of the Harold Hill Community Hub that this is a service welcomed by the families and individuals in our community. 

"We are very passionate about caring for our community and this is an amazing opportunity for us to extend this help to Rainham, so that local residents can also have access to advice, assistance and training from a friendly and welcoming team.”

Plans are already in development for further Community Hubs to be established across the borough.
