Hornchurch FC players celebrate with fans during victory parade tour
Fans and residents alike finally had the chance to celebrate this weekend, after Havering Council rolled out an open top bus for Hornchurch FC to parade the FA Trophy.
Football really did come home this summer, with the bus touring Upminster and Hornchurch on Sunday to honour last season’s historic win.
The club won their first-ever trophy back in May when they beat Hereford 3-1 at Wembley Stadium, the victory parade was arranged after all Covid 19 restrictions were relaxed on 19 July 2021 as part of the government road map.
The tour started at 2pm at Hornchurch FC's stadium, with hundreds of fans taking to the streets throughout the route, proudly displaying the team colours, before the parade finished at the new Harrow Lodge Leisure centre, Hornchurch.
At the end of the tour, players and officials were joined by Councillor John Mylod, Mayor of Havering and Councillor Damian White, Leader of the Council for a civic reception.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of the Council, said:

“It’s been a source of great inspiration and pride across Havering with the victory providing a real boost after a difficult year.
“You don’t have to be a football fan to appreciate Hornchurch FC’s success and how they overcame the odds time and time again in the FA Trophy competition.
“The team’s perseverance reminds me of the resilience shown by colleagues and the community over the last 16-months, in dealing with the demands of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Well done Hornchurch FC – winners of the FA Trophy 2020/2021”
