Small businesses to be recognised at new awards
Havering Council has announced the launch of the Havering Small Business Awards.
Chosen by the community, the awards will celebrate the wide range and excellence of small consumer businesses in the borough.
The first annual Havering Small Business Awards will take place early in the New Year, and give Havering residents the chance to nominate those high street and consumer-facing businesses in their communities that go above and beyond every day.
The awards will be split into multiple categories, drawing on the variety of shops and businesses across Havering’s seven town centres and beyond.
These categories will be announced throughout December 2021, with nominations opening in January 2022.
Businesses with the most nominations in each category will go through to the final round, where the public can vote in online polls to decide the winners.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“It continues to be a tough year for businesses across the country, but we’ve seen so many shining examples of businesses not just surviving, but giving back to their communities and standing out as beacons of hope.
"I believe it is vital that we recognise those hidden gems in Havering’s diverse high streets.
“Whether it’s your local chip shop that always serves the best fish and chips, that small boutique you couldn’t live without, or a tradesperson who is always on-call if you need them, this is your chance to show those businesses what they mean to you.
“Keep your eyes peeled for the full list of categories in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and have a think about which business you want to put forward when nominations open in the new year.”
