Councillor John Crowder, Cabinet Lead for Regeneration and Sir James Wates, Chairman of the Wates Group, visited Napier and New Plymouth House yesterday (24/2/2022).

The visit celebrated the progress at the first site in the Havering ’12 Estates’ regeneration programme and comes ahead of a formal topping out ceremony due to take place next month (March 2022).

The Napier and New Plymouth developments, located in Rainham, will be the first to be completed as part of the Havering Council and Wates Residential joint venture partnership to regenerate 12 council estates across the borough.

The 197 high-quality homes built for local people, including 126 affordable homes will be ready to move into this winter. All residents who have been moved off the site to enable the regeneration are also guaranteed the right to return.

Councillor Crowder and Sir James were accompanied by Helen Bunch, Executive Managing Director of Wates Residential and Neil Stubbings, Director of Regeneration who got to see first-hand the progress that has been made on site.

This includes brickwork due for completion by Easter, following which the scaffold will continue to come down. Internal fitting continues to progress on schedule, with all the pod bathrooms installed, internal partitions complete and trades now working inside on electrical, kitchens, painting and decorating.

Councillor Crowder, said:

It is inspiring to be here today to see the final stages of these new homes at the Napier and New Plymouth site taking shape. For me, it represents the most exciting chapter as we get ever closer to welcoming back Havering residents later this year to these quality-built, affordable homes that will benefit local people for generations to come.”

Sir James Wates CBE, Chairman of Wates Group, said:

“It is great to be on site to celebrate progress made on this key project which promises to transform the local community, helping to deliver an exciting new chapter in the borough’s history for the benefit of all who live and work here.”
