Havering Council has set out its vision for the hundreds of children and young people in its care and those who have experienced care.
The Children's Social Care team have worked tirelessly with children in care and care experienced young people to understand their needs and establish their vision for the next three years.
The corporate parenting strategy 2025-2028, shows how the Council will work as responsible parents with other professionals to meet Havering’s children in care’s health, education, safeguarding and participation in life.
The strategy is in line with the Council’s earlier approved Integrated Starting Well Strategy which outlines the WISH principles which aims to ensure that all children in care or who have experienced care, are Well, Inspired, Safe, Heard and Treated Fairly.
Young people recently gave their interpretation of the WISH strategy through the creation of a series of short films.
The strategy, which has been approved by Cabinet, was developed alongside young people, and was intentionally produced to be concise, accessible and child-friendly.
Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“At the heart of the strategy is listening to the voices of our young people in care and those who have experienced care, celebrating their successes and ensuring they are equipped to take on life in every aspect from their education and safety to health and relationships.
“As corporate parents we are striving to ensure that they are provided with good quality services so that they can achieve and reach their full potential.”
