Volunteer with Havering Youth Justice Service

We have opportunities for members of the community to be involved with delivering community panels to look at referral orders.

Referral Orders are the first Court Order young people are sentenced to if the offence committed meets the sentencing threshold.

They range from 3 to 12 months.

The purpose of Referral Orders is to rehabilitate young offenders, re-integrate them back into their communities and to enable them to undertake reparation to the victim of their offence to repair any harm caused.

As a Community Panel Member, you will take part in informal panel meetings with a young person, their parent or carer, and a Youth Justice Service (YJS) Practitioner.

Together, you will discuss the impact of the young person's behaviour and agree on a programme of interventions and activities designed to help them make positive choices, repair the harm caused, and reduce the risk of future offending.

Volunteers are asked to commit to attending at least one evening meeting every fortnight. We are also keen to hear from individuals who have availability during the daytime.

Referral Order Panels tend to take place on Tuesdays between 4pm and 8pm.

Full training will be provided by the Havering Youth Justice Service.
